That Real Ish with Theo

Ladies & gentleman. let me introduce you to Theo, simply Theo, no more no less. Featured on all your favourite blogs & sites, the homie has the internet going nuts. Not to mention co-signs from the likes of Lupe Fiasco, Skyzoo & a whole host of your other favourite rappers. Theo has opened up for & performed with a plethora of well known mainstream & underground artists such as the legendary Rakim, Chris Brown, Juelz Santana, Lloyd Banks, The L.O.X., U-N-I & etc. Transitioning from DJ to MC Theo has been overly successful, & Theo has stuck on grindmode since. I recently sat down with the homie to discuss all things Audi, honey nut cheerios, Miley Cyrus, Zack & Cody, Obama & Serena Williams, & he kindly sent through an exclusive joint from his mixtape 'The Birth' premiering on OkayPlayer 08.08.08, remember that. Read on, & download the exclusive chest thumping banger of a joint; 'Hola Oh Theo' at the end.

My man Theo, what's good? First off thanks for getting it poppin' with That Real Ish. We gotta get the introduction out of the bag. So for those unfortunate few who do not have knowledge of the great Theo or have not read your biography on the MySpace because they're either illiterate or living in a cave, who is Theo? A bird? A plane? DJ? Artist? Musician? [Insert cool occupation here]?
Lol @ 'great Theo'. I hope to be but um, Theo is Theo. I'm a musician, an artist, I DJ, I am an MC, I sing & I dabble in production.
Damn, you're multi multi-talented, more so that I thought at first, & I've read the bio on the MySpace, however something my brain is pondering at the moment is, if Theo was a car, what would it be & why?
If I was car, I'd be an Audi A8. Sleek with class & loved in & out of the hood.
What did you eat in the morning?
Hmmm, what did I eat for breakfast? I went to a doctor's appointment, then ate cereal. Honey nut cheerios to be exact.
Honey nut cheerios is the shit forreal, only second to Coco Pops. I have to insert a corny ass interview question here & there so; you've been branded hipster rap as have many of the other cats putting out the same style of music as yours, but over here at That Real Ish, we couldn't give a f*ck what anyone thinks of Theo unless he thinks it of himself, what do you define your music as?
I define myself as good music, honestly, I keep it as simple as that. The foundation is hip-hop based, of course, but honestly, its good music. The music is goooood, lol. And Honey Bunches of Oats is at the top of good cereal, btw.
I agree, simple as that. Talking of good music, what music was the good shit when you were growing up? The artists that influenced you, the genres that influenced you, the song that was your 'Ooohhh damn Taniqua, hold my glass, this ma jaaaaaayummm! *proceeds to go wild on the dancefloor*' joint? I'll have to try the Honey Bunches of Oats sometime.
Hahahaha. Well, my parents played a lot of Donna Summer, Michael Jackson, Kenny G, Michael Bolton. A range of music, I grew up on a lot. My parents were too avid on vulgar hip-hop when I was younger for obvious reasons, so I listened to a lot ranging in Heavy D, Nas, Jay-Z, Slick Rick, ATCQ & Outkast to things in the R&B/Soul range like Soul 4 Real, En Vouge, Toni Braxton, Keith Sweat, the et cetera's.
What about nowadays?
I still listen to the same stuff, well some. I listen to everything honestly, it's cliche to say that nowadays but its sheer honesty, if I feel its good I'm going to enjoy it, but I've been listening to this song by Rich Boy titled 'Feel The Wood' production on the song is hot. Sound is similar to a song on 'The Birth'.
Ahhh, The Birth, hitting our speakers 08.08.08. It's a well known fact The Birth 08.08.08 > The Olympics 08.08.08 so tell us more about that. The concept, the production, the guests, the premier on OkayPlayer?
Hahaha. Well a birth in any sense is a emergence. Standing out, coming out of something, being apparent which is what the birth symbolizes for musically &where I wish to excel to. I kept production consistent but I still had a range, if that makes sense. We have Profit (Sweetest Language), Young Eli, Kris Fame (Say It Right), Austin White, Judah, Santo Angelo & my homie Brose (TV Show), I kept it in arms reach somewhat. As far as features I kept it simple, not selfish but simple. I got James Watts as well the big homie Skyzoo, so its looking delicious, lol. Yea OkayPlayer, much much MUCH respect to them, they have blessed me with the opportunity for my music to be showcased at such a high degree.
It's an emergence we def look forward too, & the OkayPlayer thing is certainly is a good look, however you would've been better premiering it on That Real Ish radio with a DJ Skee-esque 'WORLD PREMIER' drops, the typical braggadocio DJ Khaled 'WE THE BEST, WE GLOBAL, WE GALACTIC, WE UNIVERSAL' shouts, & an assault of all the sound effects I could find on Limewire. Moving on, how many groupies have you impregnated since the release of the '85 Till Infinity mixtape?
Lol, none man, can't get caught up in all that. The response has been grand, very appreciative of the support & love I've received from that.
None? I take advantage of all the obese ladies showing groupie love on That Real Ish, on the subject of ladies, modeling chicks or chicks that ain't on TV ('cause they got more ass than the models)?
Really man, I don't mind. Model chick is always good but majority of the time they ain't toppin' the ones off the screen.
Venus or Serena? Hundreds & fiddies or big ass titties?
Lol, who's the younger one? Serena? Then I say Serena. I'll take the Hundreds.
Serena? Bad choice, I'd have gone for Ivanovic. However, Serena would rip the 'A Milli' beat to shreds I'm sure. Why did the 'Theo - A Milli (Freestyle)' never drop?
Lol, it would be too predictable. I mean, it would have been cool to jump on the record 'cause the flow pattern would have been dumb crazy, but ehh, it wouldn't be as appreciated. I had in mind to a thousandaire, but ehhh.
I would have loved to see how it fared against the O Bama O Bama rendition. It's fitting we mention Sir Barack, whilst the blogs & hip-hop sites tend to be filled with politic influenced content these days, the real question is if the US presidency had to be decided by a triple threat no holds barred cage match between Bush, McCain & Obama with Theo as the special guest referee who'd be the next president?
Obama would win, he seems aggressive, Bush would try & set the match up so the votes would need a re-count or something, & McCain will follow whatever Bush did, but truth always prevails.
Word. So what's next? What's next for the great Theo? After The Birth? Any plans for an album? TheoTellEm.com?
We have 'The Birth' on its way out on the 8th of August, after that I'm going to continue to make music. I'm a little tight lipped, but there are some things coming together that will make it all well, but as far as an album, ehhh I'll wait.
It's good to see an artist do it different, usually cats take advantage of the hype too early, I'm sure The Birth will keep my ears occupied for long enough. If you could add a song too it, with any 2 artists dead or alive, & any producer dead or alive, what would the song be called & who'd be the guests & who'd lace the beat?
Miley Cyrus & The Police. The Police will be on production & Miley Cyrus will just be there so I can gain her Disney market & get on an episode of Zack & Cody.
Keenan & Kel > Zack & Cody. The Coolio theme was a huge part of my life growing up, ya digg? If you could choose one song to define your life, your mentality, simply Theo, what would it be?
I agree with you on Keenan & Kel > Zack & Cody but; My Brother & Me > Kennan & Kel, but uh man I don't know. Usually everyone has a cliche response, but I'm not sure. Oh, matter fact, Seal's 'Fly Like an Eagle', as a kid I loved that song, still do.
*Attempts to sing Fly Like An Eagle... fails'. Well Sir Theo, thank you for chopping it up with That Real Ish, I'm sure you feel honored, I would too, but on the real it's been great discussing That Real & Random Ish with you, I'm sure we'll be hearing from you in the future.
Most definitely, greatly appreciated for the opportunity.
You welcome. let's part ways on a word each; microphone.
Barbeque sauce.

That Real Ish with ASHer Roth

Last time it was Donny Goines, now we chop it up with the 'Burbs first person to murder a verse..', Mr. ASHer Roth. Need an introduction? Go read the MySpace. Now, read the following, enjoy & spread, download links follow. Props to Dana for setting this up.

First things first, 3 words, That Real Ish. What does that mean to you? What's your definition of That Real Ish?
No additives. No preservatives. That REAL Ish.
Can you Crank Dat Soulja Boy? Be honest, we know you know the moves.
Come on now, we ALL know how to Crank Dat. However, my homie Brain Bangley has got it done pat.
When does the 'Asher Roth - A Millie Freestyle' drop? [Note: Interview was conducted before the ASHer dropped his Milli]
You aren't the first person to ask. I did what I had to do - all you have to do is Google "ASHer Roth - A Milli"
There's a lotta people comparing you with Eminem, whatcha got to say to that? Are you a fan?
I feel like Em is arguably the best that ever did it. Of course I'm a fan. Anyone who grew up in the past 15 years and listens to hip-hop music was influenced and inspired by Eminem. If it weren't for him a lot of frustrated youths in a complicated America would not have had a voice. He stood up for he believed in, he explained that their are problems in the world that America has turned a blind eye to and opened a window into his world. There's not really a lot of emcee's who have accomplished what Em has and its absolutely flattering to mentioned in the same breathe as him. None the less, I feel it may be a bit premature - potential is a scary word - let's see how things pan out.
Favourite album of all time?
That's an impossible question to answer - there a lot of incredible albums for a lot of different reasons.
Greatest MC dead or alive?
I think there's definitely a difference between emcee and rapper. Greatest rapper of all-time, I'd have to say Tupac - great emcee - KRS-One is up there - but thats just my humble opinion.
All time favourite super-hero?
I'm gonna have to go with Superman.
If you could have a one night stand with anyone, who would it be?
A sexy soccer mom that I score at the grocery store in the organic food aisle.
What was the last thing you ate/drank/smoked/inhaled?
Guacamole dip, busch light and a beaster blunt.
Air Force One's or Jordan's? Ass or tittays? Bush, neatly trimmed or bald? Mary-Kate or Ashley? If you could fuck a cartoon chick which one would you pick?
Top siders, ass & titties, Fuck Bush, Ashley 2 years ago and I thought I told ya'll already - right off the bat it'd be Jessica Rabbit.
Lastly, corny-ass interview question; what does the future hold for Asher Roth?
Lots of fun, lots of good stories - a plethora of good honest music and the dopest live hip-hop show you've seen in a very long time.
Last thanks for chopping it up with That Real Ish, anyone/anything you'd like to shoutout, badmouth, cuss, promote, a freestyle, suicide note etc.?
Much love to all my fans, friends and family - thank you for all the support! - I'm nothing without you. Thanks for taking the time out.

That Real Ish with Donny Goines

So long time That Real Ish affiliate Donny Goines has the internet game on storm, but it wouldn't be complete without That Real Ish would it?

First things first, 3 words, That Real Ish. What does that mean to you? What's your definition of That Real Ish?
That means truth to you. That Real Ish could be anything you want it to be aslong as it's authentic.
Can you Crank Dat Soulja Boy? Be honest, we know you know the moves.
Hahaha not at all. Truth be told I can't dance for shit. Whenever I do decide to dance its either a two step or I'm just grinding on some girls ass.
When does the 'Donny Goines - A Millie Freestyle' drop?
Never. I'm not one to follow trends and do something just because eveyone else did it. Some of them shits were hot tho. I liked Lil Mama and Cory Guns on it.
Do you cook? What would you cook for the hottest female on the planet?
Hot dogs on a toasted bun haha. I can't cook to save my life. If she's like I might fry some chicken tho.
Talking of females, if you could have a one night stand with anyone, who would it be?
Meagan Good. I want see her in the bed cause I think she's a freak lol.
Favourite album of all time?
Life After Death
Greatest MC dead or alive?
The person that made Life After Death.
Coke or Pepsi? MySpace or Facebook? Fruit or vegetables? McDonalds or Burger King? Google or Yahoo? Shaq or Kobe?
Pepsi, Myspace, Fruit, Micky D's, neither, Google and both of them dudes are some funny motherfuckers to me so its a toss up haha.
The Notorious B.I.G. or Pac? Nas or Jay-Z? Soulja Boy or Arab? Batman or Robin?
Big, Nas, Arab (I don't know who this is but I'm sure he's better then Soulja Boy haha). Batman of course, I think Robin's gay.
Now for the one & only corny-ass interview question, what does the future hold for Donny Goines?
Greatness.
Lastly, any shoutouts, disses, rants, promotion, links or the compulsory 'Mom I'm on the internet' shout?
Fuck wack rappers, I like that real ish.

Teddy Roxpin

An interview & producer spotlight, I did with the homie Teddy Roxpin for Kevin Nottingham's This Is Hip-Hop.
For my first ‘Producer Spotlight’ here, I wanted to introduce y’all to Massachusetts’ Teddy Roxpin. Half of production duo Cold Legistics, alongside fellow counterpart The Admiral, Teddy’s been grindin’ solo too. Featured in The Source & with production credits for artists suck as The Camp, Apathy, Praverb, Max Haben & a whole host of other respectable underground MC’s. With the release of his latest remix tape ‘Supermailman’, I decided to sit down with Teddy Rox & see wassup.
